BMW have made aircooled twins since the dawn of time. There have been model designation changes over the years, but the basic layout and style of the bike has not changed. Typical is the R80/7 shown – an 800cc twin produced from the late 70s to mid 80s.

This "Beemer" is great for long trips. It offers good handling, it’s very comfortable as well as reliable. It’s definitely a great touring bike from BMW motorcycles.

Design
With its long bonnet and wheelbase and low, flowing roofline, the BMW 6 Series Coupé has the proportions of a classic Gran Turismo Coupé. The dynamic front end angles down purposefully at the road, and the rest of the car follows suit. The side panel fold creates highlights that run parallel to the tarmac, while the muscular rear end underlines the close connection between the car and the road (Source: "bmw.com").
Diseño
Con el largo capó, la generosa distancia entre ejes y la fluida línea del techo, el nuevo BMW Serie 6 Coupé tiene las proporciones de un coupé gran turismo clásico. Los dinámicos ángulos del frontal se curvan intencionadamente hacia la carretera, y el resto del coche sigue sus líneas. El relieve de los paneles laterales crea un reflejo que corre paralelo a la calzada, mientras la zaga musculosa subraya el estrecho vínculo que une el coche con la carretera (referencia: "bmw.es").

Der BMW 327 war ein Coupé des bayrischen Fahrzeugherstellers BMW in den späten 30er Jahren, gefertigt in BMWs Eisenacher PKW-Werk.
Merkmale waren wie beim BMW 326 ein – allerdings verkürzter – Kastenrahmen, anstelle der Torsionsstabfeder des BMW 326 wurde die Hinterachse des BMW 327 an zwei Blattfedern aufgehängt, die durch eine untenliegende Blattfeder geführte Vorderachse und eine hydraulische Bremsanlage. Als Karosserievarianten wurden das Kabriolett (ab 1937) und ein Coupé (ab 1938) angeboten, alle in der damals zeitgemäßen Stromlinienform. Das Reserverad lag bereits verdeckt. Die Motorisierung mit einem 6-Zylinder-Reihenmotor mit 1.971 cm³ entsprach ebenfalls dem BMW 326, brachte es aber auf leicht gesteigerte 55 PS.
Weiterhin wurde die Variante 327/28 mit dem 80 PS Motor des BMW 328 gebaut.
In den Nachkriegsjahren wurde das zu 60 % zerstörte Automobilwerk in Eisenach wieder aufgebaut – zu Beginn unter sowjetischer Verwaltung, später als Betrieb des Industrieverbands Fahrzeugbau. Die Produktion des Vorkriegs-327 wurde fast unverändert wieder aufgenommen. Nach einem Rechtsstreit mit dem jetzt westdeutschen BMW-Konzern ab 1951 allerdings unter dem Namen EMW 327. Zwischen 1949 und 1955 wurden etwas mehr als 400 Stück gefertigt. wikipedia

The German X-4 was a small air-to-air missile of World War II that could be fired at heavily armed Allied bombers from a distance. To prevent jamming, guidance was by wires running between the missile and launch aircraft, rather than by radio. Slated for use on the Me 262 jet fighter, the X-4 could also have been fired from such piston-engine aircraft as the Ju 88, Ju 388, and Fw 190, all of which launched test missiles beginning in August 1944. A BMW 109-548 liquid-fuel rocket engine powered the missile. Ruhrstahl produced 1,000 X-4 airframes in late 1944, but an Allied air raid destroyed the BMW engines and production lines, a blow from which the program never recovered.

Moto de fabricação russa, é uma versão pouco evoluída da alemã BMW R 71 do início da década de 1940. Este exemplar, raro no Brasil, está com placa azul, do Corpo Diplomático (CD).
Conserva, mesmo nos modelos de fabricação recente como esse, as mesmas características rústicas (para os padrões atuais) do modelo original.

In 1940, the Soviet Union acquired the design and production techniques for BMW R 71 motorcycles and sidecars. The first M-72 model was finished in 1941. Originally, factories were to be located in Moscow, Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), and Kharkov, but due to the approach of Nazi German troops, the Moscow facilities were moved to Irbit, and the Leningrad and Kharkov facilities to Gorkiy (now called Nizhny Novgorod).
A similar model is the Soviet (now Ukrainian) Dnepr motorcycle. Both Ural and Dnepr motorcycles are sometimes known by the generic name, "Cossack motorcycles". In fact, between 1973 and 1979, Ural was one of the makes marketed by SATRA in the United Kingdom as Cossack motorcycles. Chang Jiang, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, bought the IMZ M-72 production line to build its CJ-750 (original designation Model 1957, M1).

We came to the village of Borsfleth, which was celebrating it’s 700th anniversary.
They had a show of historic bikes and motorcycles. This lovely blue BMW is the BMW R 26 from 1959. It’s top speed is 118 km/h. (73 mph)

This is the rig I use for doing craft shows and trips (Also good for "Beer Runs" as long I get free beers!!). It’s a 1978 R80/7 BMW motorcycle with a custom cargo platform sidecar. Last year in 2008 I took a trip to Alaska. That summer I named it my "Boyfriend". On my trips I take photos and then turn them into glass enamels to sell at craft shows!
